why kids don't need to smile for beautiful photos to happen

I had been fantasizing about taking photos in this giant forest for weeks. Since this park is only 8 minutes from me, we explore the area quite often and I've figured out some of my favorite spots. I couldn't wait to have a family session here and get that beautiful glow from the light filtering through the giant evergreens. It's things like this that make Washington my favorite place for photographs.

This family had all the sweetness and love that I appreciate in a family shoot. They were silly, but sincere. Goofy and adventurous. The kids explored while we just followed along and I took photos.

Every time I do a family session I see more and more that kids don't need to sit still for beautiful photos. They can run, explore, climb, be sassy, and even frown. As children there is more to their character than obeying rules and acting how we think they should. They have adventurous hearts. They are bold. They say what they're thinking.
These are the things we remember most about childhood and the things we will always treasure as parents; our babies, carefree and wild.
If you've been thinking about family photos but are nervous that your kids won't "behave", bring it on!
I promise your children will make beautiful subjects in all their "trouble."
